BACKGROUND: here's the obligatory wiki link
But also:

Once part of the famous superhero team charged with defending New York City, the Flag Five, Overkill, then called the Straight Shooter, was the only one spared when the supervillain The Terror attacked the Five. (Midnight, the dog then known as Onward, also survived, but he wasn't on the ship that day, which Overkill finds extremely suspicious. Just saying.)

Blinded, along with the rest of his team, with weaponized syphilis, he staggered around, while the Terror ordered his henchmen to simply 'crush' his hands. AEGIS rebuilt him, giving him cybernetic hands and eyes, and used him, for many years, as a solo act. That was fine with him: he lost a team once, and doesn't want to do that again.

He went rogue after one mission, for reasons AEGIS has buried, and absconded from AEGIS with the sentient AI prison boat, known as Dangerboat. With Dangerboat, he has spent the years since his abandonment of AEGIS hunting criminals.

He comes back to NYC again, spurred on by a Reddit thread posted by one Truthseeker89, sharing his theories that the Terror had survived an epic battle, fifteen years before, with Earth's first superhero, Superian. Truthseeker89, really Arthur Everest, gains access to an Urmanian supersuit, which Overkill had been tracking, and the two become unlikely allies, but definitely, definitely NOT partners.

As they get closer to the Terror, he helps take down the Pyramid Gang, capturing the gang's leader, who calls himself, pretentiously, Ramses. He truth-serums Ramses, finding out the Terror's newest lair, and proposes an immediate plan for attack, in an attempt to take out the Terror once and for all. It's a suicide mission, everyone insists, but it's also revenge. Sweet revenge.

Tick and Arthur refuse this logical course of action, and Overkill is forced to watch as they take his prisoner back to AEGIS. Of course, Ramses escapes, because those two are rank amateurs, unlike Overkill. In fact, they're such amateurs that they save a bus from danger in broad daylight, which, of course, means the Terror knows exactly how to find them. And, predictably, Arthur, along with the Urmanian supersuit, gets kidnapped.

A frustrated Overkill helps Dot (Arthur's sister) and the Tick try to track Arthur down, by tracing the Terror's tunnels. When the Terror finds out about their plan, he blows the tunnels, which, embarrassingly, leads to the Tick saving Overkill's life and robbing him once again of his blaze of glory death.

The newly formed team works together, harboring an injured Superian and a shrink-rayed Urmanian physicist with the help of local homeless man, Tinfoil Kevin and the local convenience store owner, Goat.

They unravel the Terror's plan to ultimately destroy Superian once and for all, (by using the new element Big Bismuth in the bloodstream of the Very Large Man who has been stalking the US) just as the Terror is planning on revealing his big comeback to the world. Just as events spiral to a climax, Overkill finds himself tortured by the evil Miss Lint, the Terror's second in command, leaving Dot to save his life, but meaning that he once again, misses the action--the Terror is caught and subdued by a combination of the Tick, Arthur, and a newly-healed Superian. Bah.

PERSONALITY:

As he tells Dot, "Adrenaline and rage keep me going. Also, military grade Adderall." That is...pretty much Overkill. An antihero's antihero, he takes brooding and scowling to the extreme. Having lived through the traumatic deaths of his entire superhero 'family', the Flag Five, Overkill combines an unhealthy dose of survivor's guilt with an indomitable desire for revenge. His main ambition, what keeps him going, is the desire for the Terror to be outed and brought to true justice. Or death. Which is the same thing in his mind.

But he's not all rage and murder. He has a code: when the Tick, ugh, saves his life, he insists that the Tick owns his life. He's beyond dismayed when the Tick argues that if Overkill wants to honor that, he should vow to never kill again. He's still, at this canon point, trying to work that out. It's a work in progress. But he's given his word, and despite the fact that he hates it, he will honor it.

His closest thing to a friend is Dangerboat, a sentient AI boat, who serves as his headquarters, home base, and general nag. His second closest thing to a friend is Shakira, his favorite gun, who is less lethal than Dangerboat, perhaps, but at least she doesn't talk back.

Expand upon your character's personality! We'd like to get more of an idea of what really makes them tick - we'd particularly like to know how they operate in their daily life, and how they're apt to act in the world of Mask or Menace.

Personality expansion:

Overkill is a vigilante, plain and simple, a badass's badass. Formerly AEGIS's puppet, where he earned his code-name, he's gone rogue, to hunt his own targets and seek his own revenge. They say he 'snapped' but the truth is, he was tired of being a tool of cubicle-dwelling bureaucrats. As one of their registered 'supers', he doesn't need AEGIS 'handlers' telling him what to do.

Vigilantes have their own sense of legality, (generally outside of it and with a healthy side of physical violence), of course, but also their own sense of right and wrong. Overkill's skillset includes a number of things that are not exactly legal--hotwiring cars, breaking into hotel rooms, rifling apartments, etc, but he only does them to bad guys, and no one gets hurt. In Overkill's terms of violence, bad guys get no quarter or mercy, but innocents should just stay the hell out of the crossfire. He might threaten or intimidate bystanders, but he saves his special talents for the real criminals.

Vigilantes, of course, need missions to give them a sense of purpose, and Overkill is no exception. When he's on a mission, nothing matters--sleep, food, and even personal hygiene--slide by the wayside. It all just adds to his badass mystique, just like the mask and the voice modulator.

In Overkill's mind, there is only one answer to any question and that answer is violence. Bad guys don't listen to reason, or polite requests. They listen to getting, at the very least, a good punch in the face. Or, better yet, a sword.

Overkill prides himself on his self-reliance. He works alone in his missions, because he can, and because, that way, no one else gets hurt. He has earned his physical abilities, through training, through survival, and he's blunt about his assessment that no one is as good as he is.

It stings when someone proves him wrong, like that blue gorilla, the Tick; who saved his life from a cave-in, even though it put a real cramp on his revenge plans against the Terror. He has yet to come to terms with the fact that Dot Everest not only rescued him from torture, but brought him back from death with timely CPR.

Not only do these bother him because it means other people might be good at this hero stuff, too, but they force him uncomfortably close to the idea that other people might, uh, actually care about him.

He'll never admit it, but he is lonely. His only companion is Dangerboat, his sentient AI prison boat, who teases him mercilessly about his friendless state. The Flag Five were his family, and when he lost them, nothing could ever replace them. To be honest, Overkill doesn't even try to replace them. Getting close to people only gets you hurt, and not the kind of hurt that Overkill likes.

Overkill is especially wary around women. His past with sexy villain Miss Lint has left him with an entire pile of trust issues--she used him and then betrayed him back when he was Straight Shooter, and he's...not over that. Nor is he likely to be any time soon.

All this lone vigilante time means that his social skills are, well, crap. He's not good at comforting people, or reassuring them, or even really basic manners.

In short, Overkill has no 'secret identity', he has no alias, and he has no 'normal life'. He's an unstoppable force of his own personal brand of justice, 24/7. In the world of the game, he will not actively seek out allies (contacts, maybe, but not allies), but he will be determined to find a mission--a bad guy to stalk, a conspiracy theory to track down, stupidly dangerous situations to get into or, failing those, he'll start some trouble of his own. He'll be at a disadvantage without a base like Dangerboat, and all the technology that Dangerboat provides, but, well, that just means the odds are stacked against him. And that's exactly the way he likes it.

POWER:

Overkill has cybernetic eyes and hands, which means he has the ability to target and aim guns and knives using his cybernetic optics, as well as see in the dark. His hands give him fast and accurate reaction times, as well as giving him a boost in strength. He's not as strong as the Tick, who has the strength of roughly a bus stop full of men, but he can cause damage with his grip.

He is skilled at hand-to-hand combat, regularly being able to go up against a host of goons, whether they be Pyramid Gang or the Terror's own minions. He is also skilled with swords (slashing and stabbing), throwing knives and swords, and guns, from handguns to sniper rifles.

He has worked as AEGIS's pet assassin, so he has skills in infiltration and stealth, as well as improvised weapons, including explosives.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:

[Of course he has his mask on and the vocal modulator on. Because he doesn't trust anyone here, and likely never will. And he has good reason. Exhibit A: the file on him that he'd found laying under that smarmy pamphlet.

He brandishes the folder at the camera.]

Who the fuck did this? [Someone who could hack AEGIS's files, for one thing. But that's only half of it. There's...other stuff in here.] Look, I know what we were up to in the goddam 80s. And this wasn't fucking part of it. I'd have heard. I'd know! [He probably wouldn't know. AEGIS was a bunch of assholes like that. Still, they don't know that. ]

I swear to god I will stab you in the face if I ever catch you.

[The threat is real! ]

And trust me, jackass. I will find you.

LOGS POST (PROSE) SAMPLE:

(swiping prompt 1 from the TDM: Heropa hostages)

Goddammit. This is...stupid, Overkill thinks, as he ziplines up a nearby building. Teenagers. Teenagers! When he was a teenager, he was Straight Shooter, a superhero in his own right; not some dumb punk with some clearly bad science.

This? This iwas beneath his dignity. This is beneath his paygrade, he thought, and he could almost hear Dangerboat quipping 'but no one pays you, Overkill'.

Hff. He doesn't have time for nostalgia. Dangerboat wasn't here, and it seemed no one else here was going to get the job done. Sure, there were a few people who were trying to talk to the kids--talk to them? He snorts. Naive idiots. Didn't they know that words didn't work on villains? Only one thing did: violence. There was a reason they began with the same letter.

He settles himself on a low roof, pulling his sniper rifle. Words aren't going to stop these punks. But you know what will? That nice glowing red dot of a targeting laser that's now pointing at one of the dumb kid's foreheads. Surprise, motherfucker.

Canon info

Overkill is the Tick's dark, brooding robo-ninja antihero. He takes himself seriously. Very seriously. Way more seriously than a guy who lives on a sentient boat should take himself.

He has cybernetic eyes and hands, and scars on his face that obviously come with a Deep and Tragic Backstory tm.

He's determined to get revenge on the arch-villain, the Terror, who killed his superhero team 15 years ago.

He also likes to stab things.
